Well, more of a security container not something stupid expensive. I?m flexible on the size. 5-9 gun is fine. Basically I need a second safe for long guns and ccw storage in my closet. Needs to have keypad, not really a fan of cheap biometric and key only is out since I got kids. What?s reliable and decently priced? It just needs to be kid secure but reliable opening mechanism. Not looking for something unbreakable as someone is almost always home and nothing crazy expensive will be in it. What do you guys recommend? I?d like to keep it around 500$.

For cheap, buy a keyed security cabinet for $200 or so
Keys - keep them inside your existing keypad safeRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
(thanks to Jeff Cooper) -

Yeah, absolutely no keys. I got a two and four year old who wander off with keys constantly. If they find them they will be up to no good. Plus my wife loves to “pick up” so my stuff is never in the same place twice no matter how much I plead. My other safe is on a different floor so keeping the keys in it is not a quick access possibility.
Not fully against biometric but it better have good reviews and open every time. Prefer keypad.Last edited by deckhandmike; 09-21-2023, 11:14 AM.Comment

Please let me know if you guys have any experience with the ones you recommend. I’m certainly capable of using Google to find ones. Trying to ascertain which ones actually open reliably.Comment

Barska safes appear to be reasonable. This one is 5 rifle, but it's biometric ($752). I know you're not a fan of biometric, but reviews are good.
Explore Barska's wide range of high-quality safes and outdoor equipment. From binoculars and scopes to safes and tactical gear, we offer top-notch products designed for outdoor enthusiasts and hunters.

If you go biometric, be certain it is returnable. For some reason, which may have to do with decades of working with my hands, my fingerprints just do not work on anything biometric.
The mechanism can be just fine, it is my fingerprints, all of them, which are no good. Not a common thing, but it makes biometric worthless for me.Comment
