    bullet proof vest

my friend and I are both thinking about buying bullet proof vest. Would it be best to buy online or can you recommend somewhere within reasonable distance to huntington beach. I would want one that could be worn under clothes and stop a 44mag pistol round. High quality is important. any input or ideas welcome

I don't recall if it addresses places to buy, but this thread - http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=498169 - discusses a lot of armor details.

You're probably looking at IIIA level soft armor - https://www.spartanarmorsystems.com/...ls-simplified/

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Just be aware soft armor degrades with time. You don't want to buy armor past it's expiration date.

Everything degrades over time. There have also been studies shown that these vests are just as effective many years past the expiration date listed by the manufacturer. It's a requirement for classes I take with a certain group, and really don't wear it anywhere else. Makes no sense to me to spend 3x or more for something that will really never get a ton of use, but with that said I have full confidence in its ability for a few more years. It's not liek I'm talking about vests that expired 10-15 years ago. These are very recent police trade-ins that with very little to no wear/use. If I was wearing it everyday for work and was in an environment where I needed it I would buy something differnt, but for the occasional use where the vest isn't getting a ton of use and most of the time I'd just being stored properly and used every few moths for 1-2 day stints for classes, it's perfectly fine.

+1 for d-r. Read his front page for good information on the various makes that are available.

Order the appropriate sized panels and find the carrier of your choice.

            It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

It also depends on the type of vest. Is it an exterior vest or designed to be worn under clothing close to the skin (tank top or tshirt). Sweat and body heat would definitely affect its effectiveness.

The budget is whichever vest I choose. Price is a consideration, but quality is more important. Want something that can be worn under clothing. Thinking about wearing it when i go to pistol range. for my safety. Not sure what my friends budget will be, but we plan to buy from the same place
