Carrying while backpacking?

I am thinking of the future when I get a CCW. It seems like most CCW is IWB at the rear. If I had a backpacking pack on that wouldn't work. What would be the preferred method of carrying if I had a backpacking pack on my back? In a little pouch up front? Anywhere else wouldn't really be concealed and easily accessible.

Thank you, I will look into both. Hiking is one thing but carrying a 50+ pound pack I am not sure if IWB would work. I have no idea, but with all that weight on my hips it seems like IWB might push into my hip too hard unless the holster had a big plastic base to spread the weight.

This won't come into play for several months so I have a lot of time to learn!

If you are backpacking in California there aren't any 4 legged critters to worry about, and other backpackers aren't really a threat because they usually shop at REI and drive a Subaru. If I decide to bring mine I just put it in its normal IWB or OWB holster and then stick it in the brain of the pack so I can pull it out if necessary or have it accessible at night in camp.

Those saying IWB or appendix have never carried a loaded backpack, especially with a hip belt. Chest holsters/packs, other than being grossly obvious also put extra weight on your chest and make it harder to breathe, like hiking with a bino harness on. If you are in a National Park they also have bans on firearms, so having it in any way exposed is probably not a good idea.

I have a kit bag from Hill People Gear, really like it. I use it with a full pack or on it’s own. Great for fishing, too, carries pistol and a bit of tackle.

National Parks no longer have a ban on firearms, they adopt state law. Hill People Gear chest pouches work well, especially with a Kydex holster anchored inside to keep the pistol at the desired angle with the trigger guard covered. Not even on busy portions of Seattle area trails full of anti gun types has anyone asked what was in it or looked at me unusually.

^^^Right here. I have the Hill People front pouch and it's perfect. I leave it a little unzipped so I can grab it if I need it. You'll need to buy their kydex insert to hold the gun but I didn't want to pay the extra so I YouTubed a DIY video and made my own. It came out pretty awesome.

I ruck often and always carry IWB at 0300, I wear my ruck high and don’t have any problems with it hitting or pushing on my sidearm. This with a one to three day rucksack, now with a bigger ruck it may be an issue. The front pack mentioned might be the way to go with a bigger ruck.
