Both are good companies. If there's that big of a weight difference the Sturdy must have thinner steel.

You had me at booze and bacon. Actually I don't know anything about either option. I just thought that response was funny.

I doubt the Sturdy has thinner steel. They're known for having some of the thickest steel in the industry on their base models. OP mentioned that the Sturdy has no fire rating. That likely means no fire liner which would easily account for the 200 lb. difference.

OP, if you're within 5 minutes of your local fire station, the fire rating really won't make a difference.

When I bought my Sturdy, Terry (owner of sturdy safe) stated that if you lived close to a fire department, skip the fire liner (which is not sheet rock). I chose to have it installed and now live in a different location where I am way beyond a 5 minute response. So like ordering a safe much larger than what your currently need, keep in mind you might want that fire liner down the road.

AmSec is out of the running. So now I'm tossing around the bacon/booze option versus the Sturdy Slim Jim. I've decided against the Sturdy Slim Jim and am going to go with the next size up Sturdy has to offer in their economical line.....the Small Closet Model. All the safes in the economical line have cool names except this one. So to make up for it I'm going to Costco and getting bacon and booze as well.
