Sturdy Safe Group Buy

I hope your safe's 18 ga. box thickness is a typo as that would be less than 1/16" thick. My bone stock Sturdy safe box is 3/16" and the door is 5/16".I recently went all in on one of the ultra high end "house brand" safes at my LGS. Even with literally ALL of the bells and whistles, such as heavy 18 gauge industrial steel, solar powered stick on interior lighting, illuminated keypad, 1/4 drywall fireguard interior, and white glove delivery, it came in at several hundred dollars under the prices of the Sturdy Safes being discussed here.
But I might still be in for a group buy of one of these Sturdy Safes if the quality is comparable (or preferably better if possible) to the one I discussed above.
Gym lockers and filing cabinets are made of 18 ga. steel.Comment

Yikes that guy might need to do some safe searches on YouTube, like the truth about gunsafes from weapons education.Comment

Going with the standard rule of higher number gauge being thicker and better keeps everything easier to understand.
I agree. These people need to make more informed decisions and do their homework!Comment

You've got that backwards, Bobby. With gauge sizes, the smaller the number, the thicker the material. 7 gauge, which is what Sturdy uses as standard, is .1793 inch. 18 gauge is only .0478 inch. Here's a link to a gauge chart in case anyone's interested. https://www.custompartnet.com/sheet-metal-gaugesigpic

Hey guys, I ran a GB about 6 years ago and we ended up with 20+ participating. Here's some unsolicited advice, feel free to ignore, and/or update as procedures may have changed.
1. One person take charge. There will be lots of interested people, but one person has to take point. That person needs to call Sturdy (I think my contact was Alyssa?), and she'll walk you through what you need to do to set up, it's pretty easy.
2. Set a hard deadline of when your group buy ends.
3. Put lots of info in one thread you start and control, with a running list of those who have committed.
4. Be ready for lots of PM's.
It's not as hard as one thinks, but does require a bit of organization, and if you have the time/ability, being lead on this is a good thing.
Hope that helps.Comment

With 20 participants what kind of discount did the group receive?Hey guys, I ran a GB about 6 years ago and we ended up with 20+ participating. Here's some unsolicited advice, feel free to ignore, and/or update as procedures may have changed.

I honestly don't remember. I'd guess 15%? They were really good to work with, and delivery was great -they're contracted to drop it off on your driveway. I gave the guy an extra $20 to roll it into the corner of my garage where I wanted it.With 20 participants what kind of discount did the group receive?
I also visited their factory in Fresno when I was in the area and it was pretty impressive. Solid stuff, I've been really happy with my safe. And as most people say, do buy bigger than you think you need.Comment

pyschophd, I was in your group buy and to make a small correction, I went back to your 2014 thread and there were 30 calgunners that paid in!
My barebones Sturdy safe discount came in at 16% plus another 1-1/2% cash (personal check) discount and since we cleared a certain number of safe purchases we also all received the optional lifetime warrantee.
You did one hell of a great job organizing and with constant posted updates as the process moved forward.
