    Why flashlight on subcompact?

    Have a Shield .40S&W and G43 9mm.

Researching holsters for the G43 for CCW in other states I have a permit and many holsters are available for the G43 with the Streamlight TLR-6 as well as Viridian combos.

Got me thinking, for a CCW weapon, why would I need or want a flashlight. Sure, the TLR-6 is pretty compact but it's still added weight and bigger footprint. I always figured a CCW weapon was for up close and personal situations of immediate danger like at an ATM, gas station or convenience store. If I need a light, it means I maybe have not identified immediate danger and perhaps removing myself is a better strategy. Or am I assuming too much or missing something?

Just asking because I'm planning on ordering an AIWB holster in the near future. TIA

I ccw at home and I always have a light mounted to my gun in case there's a home invasion during a power outage. I also carry a flashlight in my pocket as a backup. I believe in Murphy's law.

Because regular bullets don't kill vampires but light from a flashlight will.

        I have one on a G30S and a G19... because they had a rail. Nothing on my G26... didn't have a rail

G30S is actually a HD gun.

My very first Glock is a G22C and it has a UGLY ill-fitting TLR-4 with a laser, night sights, unpopular caliber... UGLY Talon granulates too... pure functional HD machine. It works. Even with the laser. Cats like it. I sleep next to that Glock.

I carry a G26 all the time or it's within easy reach. Putting a light on it would bulk it up and that seems contrary to my purpose of carrying a concealed sub-compact. Less is more IMO.

I do carry a small flashlight for evening excursions. Easy enough to use the light and pistol with a 2 hand grip,so...

Because bad guys like the dark

my philosophy is similar to carrying an extra magazine, I have never heard anyone say I wish I had less bullets and less light.

Prepare for the possibility not the probability.

The only thing a flashlight on a sub compact does is make it a little more muzzle heavy for recoil management. Most everyone (some well trained exceptions) I have seen at a public range shooting a subcompact cant hit the broadside of a barn out past 5 yards.

A rail mounted flashlight is a great idea for a HD pistol and a, IMHO a lousy idea for CCW weapon.

in addition to the added bulk, you must actually draw your weapon to use the flashlight.

Drawing and point a your gun in an effort to identify a potential threat seems a dangerous move until an actual threat is verified.

Instead I carry a small but very bright pocket flashlight.

Otherwise, rail lights for HD use only for me...
