    Advice Wanted: Electronic Muffs w/Aux.

    Hey folks,

Looking for some advice/experience on hearing protection - I am shopping for some muffs and it seems everyone loves and hates the same pairs. Here are my requirements:

    - Cost: $50-85
    - Would like above 22 NRR if possible
    - Must amplify surroundings (electronic)
    - Must be able to play audio from a device

My first draw was to the Howard Leight Impact Pro, but many reviews says the audio coming in is terrible and unusably quiet. The equivalently priced Peltors seem nice, but people says the compression technology is intrusive, overly sensitive, and they only have NRR 22, which is marginal for me as I will be using them with shotguns and HP rifles, often indoors. My lady will be using them also, and since she is recoil-averse I am hoping to get as much reduction as possible.

Anyone have any recommendations or experience with muffs in this range that meet these requirements? Any input is appreciated.

Raven, do you find the music/audio input to be of adequate volume and quality? That is the no. 1 complaint I've read about the Pros.

I mean, when I'm at the range, I don't listen to music. Don't see the need to do I have never really used them for that. But I can tell you noise cancellation and Amplification are great. I didn't buy shooting ear muffs to listen to music so I have no input on that

I have 4 pairs of the Impact Pro's and haven't had an issue. Well, other than stupid me lost the battery cover off of one. I sent a random email to a customer service email address at Honeywell asking if replacement covers were available and where I could buy one. They responded by saying they'll ship one out free of charge. Cool!

I can confirm that the audio input on the Impact Pro is pretty poor. You have to drive it to the highest volume from your source which probably drives it into distortion and it still is low volume at that. For noise reduction they are great but they are large and you can't get a good cheek weld on a long gun. I go to a cheaper/thinner electronic muff doubled with ear plugs for the long guns.

I would not be listening to audio while at the range.
