    Your long gun case review/experiences

Now that the dpms .308 is complete it's time to get her a case. So what are you guys using? Aluminum, resin, pvc, fabric, something homemade, $100 unit or $300 unit? I'm looking for a hard case as it will end up in the bed of the truck at some point.

      I have...

Voodoo double rifle case - Value option. Has held up well though.

5.11 double rifle case - More expensive but better quality than the Voodoo case

Pelican - Hard to go wrong with a Pelican case but they're not cheap...but they should last you a lifetime if you take care of it.

If this is a lifelong/long term hobby for you, then the odds are good that you will want both hard and soft cases. So this may really be a question of which one to get first. There is also value (IMO) of buying a soft case that can also fit inside the Pelican case. If you ever travel, it's nice to be able to leave the pelican in the hotel room once you get to your destination. Pelican cases are great but they're bulky and heavy...and can be overkill for general range trips.

A soft case can also work just fine in the back of a truck if you a) pack it carefully and b) don't intend to do any rough off roading. But if you can't do those things, then a Pelican or similar is definitely the way to go.

Consider the foam options for the pelican. There are companies that sell closed cell foam which can be a nice option. Closed cell is a little easier to cut IMO and doesn't hold moisture like open cell can. But if you cut the foam, then you can't use the case for other guns...unless you buy a second foam set. And/or you can skip the foam maybe if you intend to also go with a soft case.

I have a Seahorse 1530 (as well as Pelican cases) for my Colt and you can't beat it for the price.

It is just as good as a Pelican at a lower price.
