Hey all, I'm looking for a good safe that won't break the bank. I'd rather use a combo lock versus an electronic one but not opposed to it. Keep the price under $1000, but the closer to $500, the better. I've been looking for 16-24 gun capacity. Help is appreciated.

Liberty is definitely the way to go. It's the cheapest "real safe" you can get. Anything from Costco is garbage. I got one of the Liberty Centurion 24's and I'm very pleased with it and it's just under your $1k budget.
Go here and find a dealer near you; http://www.libertysafe.com/find-dealer.phpComment

"Please, someone point me to where I can spend $500 to protect $5000 worth of belongings." "Thanks!"
*sigh*
Don't bother with fire proofing safes. Buy a safe made out of steel, and lots of steel. Bolt it down.
In terms of brands: AMSec or Sturdy Safe, or an older safe from Kodiak or the like -- when they actually used to use steel in greater thicknesses than 16 gauge.
Anything from Costco or Home Depot and you're wasting your time, you're better off spending $150 on a locking cabinet.Comment

Costco. Your $500 there should get you something decent.
REMEMBER.....
When you transport that safe from place to place, throw a big brown refrigerator box around it. So the nose-ee neighbors won't see sheet.
Buy one that two dudes can muscle in & out of a regular truck.Comment
