    1918 WMO Turkish Gewehr 98

Recently acquired a 1918 WMO Gew 98 bolt m/m rifle. Early 1918 production. Receiver has the Turkish crescent above the crest but the receiver is still in the white. Receiver has possibly had the bluing removed as the letters have a black filling. All the parts are numbered to the rifle and still have Imperial German inspections on them.

Gew 98's in decent shape aren't easy to find anymore. Nice pickup. Gotta love the roller coaster rear sight.

My non-matching example shows previous cleaning of the receiver, under magnification. Lightly done and hard to spot at first glance. The patinated finish on OP's receiver is frequently seen and I believe sometimes indicates residual tarnish left after light cleaning.

This buttplate shows splotches of tarnish. Congrats!

OP's rifle is highly desirable with extra history. I like Turkish rifles.

I have an all matching Mauser Gew98 from 1916. All the numbers match including the bands and even the screws. I find it amazing that any survived the last 100+ years with all the original parts.
