    WTS/WTT Extremely rare Inland M1 Carbine Experimental/Protoype/Presentation

This is an excellent, very scarce World War II era General Motors/Inland Division Presentation Grade M1 Carbine manufactured with serial number "XB23. During WWII the General Motors Inland Div. designated a specific serial number block of M1 carbines/receivers with letter prefix "XB" serial numbers that were intended for use a either experimental or prototype carbines. At the end of WWII they decided to utilize these "X" prefix serial number blocks for Presentation Grade M1 Carbines as gifts for senior military officers, as well as executives within the General Motors Corp. It is estimated that approximately 100 of the "XB" serial numbers were manufactured with only a handful of them actually being offered for sale and any examples being highly sought by advanced collectors today. Many of these carbines were produced from leftover/select parts and wood to make sure they not only looked good but functioned equally as well. The receiver ring is marked "U.S. CARBINE/CAL. 30 M1", and the rear is marked "INLAND DIV/XB23" under the rear sight. This M1 Carbine has the early style, large serial number

Club records indicate that Inland XB23 was presented to Colonel H.B. Sheets with no date or location of presentation.

Col Sheets was the commanding officer of the Boston Ordnance District. He was instrumental in sourcing factories or properties to build or convert to wartime production.
The Boston Ordnance district covered east side of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Vehicles and related parts, ball bearings, munitions.

This is an all matching Inland XB23. Every single part on this carbine was produced by Inland. The wood and parkerizing looks fantasic and beautiful as can be seen in the photos. Muzzle wear gauges 1
