I have a Winchester Model 37 single shot 20 guage that would be a great project for anyone who is handy with old guns and wants a classic little shotgun.
Got this gun as part of a trade intending to put it together and use it for a spare in my cabin but discovered that I don't have the strength in my 80-year old hands to assemble it.
Appears to be all there and in good shape but may be missing a part somewhere. The opening lever is right of center and the action cocks all right. But I wasn't able to fit the barrel to the action using the hardware on the forend. May need and adjustment or a part, although according to the exploded drawing on the Gun Parts Corp. ad on the internet it's all there.
Barrel is excellent with clean bore and about 80% blue. Action has gone to grey but no pitting. This is the early "Red Letter" version of the Model 37 and the factory red paint in the "Winchester" stamping on the bottom of the receiver is still there.
Wood is excellent as oil refinished; looks almost new. Butt is full length with a vintage "Jostam" recoil pad professionally fitted.
With some knowledge (and hands that still work) this could be a nice little gun. If it needs a part, it should be easy to find since the 37 was the Winchester shotgun they sold more of than any other model. The parts alone are worth a lot more than I'm asking although I'd much rather have it put together for a shooter for someone. Make a nice spare or kid's gun.
$150 OBO to a C&R license in the OC or nearby. This gun was made in the 1940s or early 1950s and has no serial number. I can send pix by email or meet with anyone who has a C&R and is serious about buying.
Thanks for reading!
