That is a beauty. Too bad somebody sanded and refinished, it would be worth more if it was original. Very clean and pretty rifle though.

      This^^

I wouldn't touch it at that price because of the non-original finish.

That seems high to me. Is the blued bolt correct? Our K98 has a white bolt.
        Because milsurp.

That is a fine looking rifle. It is too bad the finish was bubba'd. There are lots of matching K98's floating around, you just gotta know where to look, what to look for, and have the cabbage..

The bolt should be blued. When someone refinished your barreled receiver they stripped and polished the bolt.

This ERMA is 2 years older than yours.

            Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

BLued bolt is correct. All German k98ks had blued bolts. Although I think the bcd43 in the listing has had the bluing refinished as well.

Yuck, a terrible decision to sand and varnish the rifle (without even removing the action from the stock). Why do people make such terrible choices?

Easy to rip folks off with Mausers and Garands, most of the time you count on somebody with plenty of money who just saw Saving Private Ryan for the first time a week ago, and you're golden. You see the Garands at gun shows around here and some pretty wrecked ones have $1000 and up price tags, same goes for K98k's. If its got intact stamps its suddenly a $1000 gun too.

I agree with Mosin..I wouldn't touch that gun at $1700 with a sanded stock..lost all of those precious wood stampings too! Always keep a sharp eye examining "all matching" guns as there are way too many frauds out there stamping parts (also makes you think there are quite a few matching guns out there when in actuality there are not). Waffs and serial number on parts should BOTH be correct for the gun (note there are metal stamps available to counterfeiters for waffs too!). Also check individual parts are the right configuration for the year/ manufacturer AND the fonts to make sure they match the other ones on the gun. Finally, check for signs of re-bluing/ cold bluing to cover their tracks. If you want an original, buy yourself a good K98k book for collectors..."Backbone Of The Wehrmacht The German K98K Rifle 1934-1945" is a good one and there is a fairly recent one that is even more detailed called "Karabiner 98k". Take some time examine rifles at gun shows, etc. and compare to books and you'll start spotting fakes. Don't get burned! Good luck.
