    DOJ confirmation letter weirdness.

The first confirmation forms acknowledged me for reporting my "out of state rifle acquisition" (Two in-state rifles.)

Just now I got the paperwork back for three more rifles I acquired in state...

This time it says "Out of state handgun."

I submitted the correct in-state-longarm form BOF 961:

    CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE,
    Collector In-State Acquisition
of Curio or Relic Long Gun Report

I double checked my local copies of the forms, and they are correct.

Anyone else get weird letters like these? Did you call the DOJ to fix, or maybe it's just a boiler plate form error made by a human?

I got two letters today saying the same thing. They get it wrong every time.

I clearly write in the names of guns, model #s and manufacturers and they do always get it wrong, sometimes comically so. I am beginning not to care, I did my part legally. I just don't care if they screwed it up anymore. We shouldn't have to register C&R guns in the first place.

Sounds good. I'm keeping my original copies safe.

        Thank you.

Every rifle or shotgun that I reported last year, and there were quite a few, got the handgun letter. They never updated their form letter to reflect long gun registration and it appears that they really don't seem to care about being accurate. That is why I keep a copy of the reporting form that I send in and file it with every acknowledgement letter from the DOJ.

My long gun came back with a handgun report, so I don't know if its a long gun or pistol.
It has a 28 inch barrel in 762mm, its "on file" so oh well
