I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Very cool. That rifle stood there for generations. I'll imagine some desperado had to bug out of his camp and leave it behind with the posse on his trail.

From what I saw, that Winchester is in remarkable given that is has probably spent upwards of a 100+ years directly exposed to the elements. I guess a desert climate is kinder to a gun than say a jungle, but still, that is just an incredible find.

It is an old rifle but it doesn't mean that it's been there since 1873. Probably 40 ye are or so

That's really amazing that it has been out in the elements for so long and still in decent shape (all things considered). It's also pretty incredible that no one found it until recently too.

It's also cool that they are going to preserve it and put it in a museum. If it was found in California it would have been cut in half.

My Mixmaster will be in attendance. Unfortunately, I think the gun shoots better than the holder. :-)

I bet it's still loaded, too.

I would be interested to seeing what ammunition, if any was loaded in the magazine... That would be a better indicator as to how long the rifle had been out in the elements....

They might find the last owner near by. I am thinking someone forgot it at their camp site (unlikely)or more likely they put it down for a minute and then something happened and there it remained. It looks like it has been there for a very long time. It was vital to the owners survival at them time which is why I think the owner is still nearby.
