My brother bought the 2 we have, and they're 1/2" ar500. Some of you have seen them take hits from the .338 lapua. They're holding up just fine. It's out target stand/hanger system that's biting the big one. Just the splash from
250gr bullets at +/- 3000fps destroys what the gong hangs from. Add to that everyone else shooting at it after their targets have fallen down and the poor thing takes a serious beating. I don't care though, all in the name of fun.

I have something that'll fix that that I'll be bringing to the next shoot.

I would stick to 6" or 8" for 100 yards. That seems to be the proper size, not too big or too small. Hanging you target using firehose has worked well for several people at out monthly C&R shoots. The stands are always the troublesome part but the 1/2" iron pipe stand that knucklehead put together has taken a beating but has lasted for several shoots. Rebar tends to not hold up very well and will often break when it's been hit.

If you need some AR500 targets check out the link in my sig. Free shipping over $100, 20% off, plus $10 off using the link below. I bought a nice selection of 1/2" targets for about $100. They have 3/8" and thinner as well.

They also sell target stands that seem a bit pricey, but it will give you ideas of what you can build yourself.

**EDIT: I should add, I have no affiliation with ShootingTargets7.com. Just found a good source for targets and thought I would pass it on.

Well, I managed to get a 1/2" 10in AR500 gong for only $25, so not a bad deal. I did buy my 4" plate from your site though.

edit: and since it's a veteran owned and -operated business, I'll be buying from them in the future. That, and I was impressed with the quality of the 4" I got already.

At 100 Yards plate should be 4" with 6" being max.

That depends what you're shooting though.
