I took the Israeli Mauser 7.62 Nato out to the Kern Valley Gun Club today and it shot beautifully. My first group at 50 Yards was a ten shot group of 1.35 inches. Let the barrel cool and began punishing the steel at 200, 280, 320, and out to 450 yards. The silouettes were clanging at the above distances.
I was using my own home-grown 168 BTHP load, with good results. I had to be careful with my sight picture, the rifle shoots high at 100 yards. At this distance the rifle shoots about 4 inches high. My sight picture was the very tip of the front sight low in the v-notch, and holding a low 6 o'clock hold on the target to get the shots to hit dead center. I did purchase a tall front sight for the rifle from a company back east, it is a barley corn type that is
.33 high, I will put it on when I get home.
