    Refinished '39 M91/30

    Hey,

I posted this over on surplusrifleforum in the MN forum as well in case you frequent there and get wierd deja vu

This is a 1939 Tula M91/30 that I bought through IO Inc's Christmas '07 special. It shot like crap after I cleaned it,
so I shimmed the receiver and sanded the barrel channel to float it (typical Mosin fixes) and it shoots ok now.
The Shellac was beat up pretty bad so I stripped it, stained the birch with Minwax #222 Sedona Red, and refinished
with a couple coats of 50/50 mix of Mineral Spirits and Fornby's Tung Oil Finish.

It came out real good (to me at least, may look ugly as hell to anybody else) so I took some pics to share. Turns out it even has a hint of tiger-striping:

There's nothing quite like a fine piece of wood with a nice finish, whether it's a gun stock or anything else. Looks good to me.

Sedona red. I'll have to remember that one. Looks great. I like the way you photographed it too.

I bought one of those Dec '07 $55 dollar M91/30s too. I still haven't got round to doing anything to it, but at least it shoots nice and accurately though.

Sweet! I love that pic. Its very impressive. It actually looks like something you'd see in a magazine article or a poster

Nice job. Even if it doesnt shoot well, I bet you you get a crazy little grin whenever you peek into the safe

Wasn't that Miss July center fold. Nice camera work.

I have been using a lot of out side light. Not a sexy.
