Can someone help this guy out?

They are almost never is perfect shape. Almost always well-used, abused, and well-worn and what could be described as "good condition" versions I've seen typically retail off the surplus rack at dealers like Martin B. Retting in Culver City for $600 to $800. If his is as described in great condition with "cosmoline" on it, he may be fair to ask $1,600 - but he really needs to provide photos.
Without photos, he is asking us to use our imagination. It could have a sporterized stock, cut-down barrel, worth all of $250 - or it could be mint and worth some $2,500.
Because....

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement? -
I saw that too. To claim a nearly 120 year old gun has been "NEVER FIRED!" - that's a mighty prognostic to make, and without a doubt, he needs to provide some good photos.
I agree that the Remington examples are rare, so this will elevate it well above others, but I will hold my opinion until he posts photos.
But I'm not doubting the possibility of it having never been fired. Just a few days ago, I held a gun in my own very hand that appeared to still be new in its box with all its accessories, and is estimated to be worth $75,000 (or more) - from the late 1800's, found after sitting in an attic for at least some 80 years or more.
It appeared to be unfired. For real.

I have one of those unnumbered Remington Berthiers, During the early part of WWI, the French could not manufacture rifles fast enough for their expanding army, so they contracted with Remington to make the 3 shot clip version of the Berthier. The rifles were serial numbered when they were received in France. later in the war, French production caught up with demand and they cancelled their contract with Remington.
A lot of the unbought unnumbered Remington Berthiers are in gun collections in the US. They do look brand new if - like mine - they have been safe queens for the past 95+ years.

Reading this Wiki entry on the Berthier rifle, it says the Remington Contract was cancelled unaccepted after around 100,000 rifles were made. However, I thought I have seen Remington made Berthiers that had serial numbers on them and were used by the French in WWI. So I doubt the Wiki is completely accurate.
I did find this old auction for a similar Berthier - http://www.gunsamerica.com/983651234...-w-Bayonet.htm - in it is says a few thousand made it to France before the contract was cancelled. So I guess the Wiki could use some refinement. I don't see a date on the auction but he wanted $1,350.00
The poster known as 1886lebel seems very well informed in his statements on this thread - http://parallaxscurioandrelicfirearm...0R#.VKK-cCV0N4Last edited by Rogerbutthead; 12-30-2014, 7:09 AM.Comment

Either this guy is a flake or just a noob - we'll find out soon enough!"The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke speech of 23 April 1770, "Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents," delivered to the House of Commons.Comment

Here is a regrouping of several remarks I posted on various forums both US and French
Those Berthier are like if they had been preserved in a time capsule. That is the way they looked when they came out of the factory.
Some of the Remingtons from my collection

And lets not forget the bayonets

Here two 07/15 St-Etienne , April 1917 surrounding a Remington
