Quite a few US marked Rem Sportsman's were sold commercially after the war. I had one a few years back that had an owners manual describing it as such. Much that same as GMC and Chevrolet military trucks were marketed to farmers and construction companies as a cost saving alternative to a new truck.

Thanks for the education on these shotguns. I would think ones with the engraving and the US proof marks would be more valuable just because they are a unique mix of commercial and military. Is this a true assessment? Even if they aren't worth more, they have a cool factor just for being uniquely different.

Military shotguns are cool in my book. The cowardly germans got their asses handed to them in the trenches of WW1, thanks to the US trench broom.

Prices are all over the place. This one didnt cost me much more than the used made in japan browning A5 next to it in the consignment rack. I read a new in box example with the paperwork like kendog noted sold for $2800.

I have my grandfather's old model 11. It is a beautiful gun, a great shooter and points so naturally for me.
            Mine is a 16 gauge.

I have a model 11 with all the GI markings. I used one when I was a kid for bird hunting with a skeet/cyl choke. It was great close up.
Later I bought my own for $200. I got another buttstock and cut it for the same length with a recoil pad on it. I saved the original so I could reinstall it if I wanted.
Never shoot it or my other shotgun anymore.

Here's how mine ended up. The barrel was already cut, I added the Choate mag extension. It was a +3 round extension which stuck past the barrel, so I cut it just shy. Now it holds 7 rounds in the tube.

But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

Yep the "widow maker" Cabala's Reno has had one on the rack for months.

Nice find. I've had my eye on a Model 11 for the last month and haven't found a nice one at a good price yet.
