    Ex-Sniper Mosin thoughts?

    Hi guys,

I've come across someone selling a 43 Izhevsk ex-sniper for $175, including sling, parts, ammo pouch, etc plus a couple boxes of shells. Do you guys think that's a fair price for an ex-sniper? They don't come up too often around here so I'm thinking of jumping on it.

    Thanks,
    Tim

How do you identify Izzy ex-sniper? I know Tulas were marked "СП" or "CH", but receiver on my Izhevsk PU has no markings.

Izhevsk should have the scope number stamped into the barrel shank. Most likely it will be lined out. Ex snipers are easily identified by the remainder of screws/welds as viewed from inside the reciever, then ground flush.

I think ex snipers are cool, but they got refurbished like the rest of the 91/30's and retired from sniper service for reasons unknown. I would never re-sniper one, as it's cool in it's own way. I'd prefer one, but not pay maybe more than $20-30 over a regular 91/30 unless it was an ex PE/PEM with the holes intact.
I've shot Beetle Bailey's ex sniper and it was very smooth and had a fantastic trigger.

For $175 and a good bore, it sounds like a deal to me and makes for interesting conversation.

I haven't seen pictures of a scope number, either intact or lined out. But as Turbota stated, it has the filled in screw holes from the original scope mount inside the receiver. Good enough for me. Thanks guys.

Yeah $175 is more than fair when retailers are selling regular 91/30s for $189-199.

Seems like a fair price, getting it back to original configuration will cost three times that amount unless you can do it yourself with proper equipment..

the ex sniper i had had the scope mount holes welded, a small wood repair patching the scope mount cut out and had the scope # lined out on the left side of the barrel.

that is a deal for that rifle alone. The extras are just a bonus at that point. Ex snipers are great shooters.
