Pregunta... Rolling Block Bayonet

Howdy folks,

A while ago, I picked up a Remington Rolling Block, presumably a 1901 patent Mexican contract. I posted a thread on it and it is a great piece!


Anyway, last winter I picked up a bayonet for it. It fits fine, but my question is whether this is the correct one that was handed out with the rifle to the soldier? I have seen cut-down ones, but never a full blade. It locks fine with the cleaning rod.

There were three variants of the Remington No. 5 rolling block bayonet: 8-inch, a 13 3/16-inch, and a 15 3/4-inch blades. The 8-inch blade is the most common variant. It was associated with the Mexican contract and many others. The 13 3/16-inch variant was associated exclusively with the Mexican contract, but is the most uncommon. The 15 3/4-inch variant was produced for France, and is not associated with the Mexican contract.

I measured it and it is the longest one at 15 inches. Interesting that the French one fits the Mexican rolling block just fine. Or perhaps that is not so interesting.
