I think I found some fake parts on my M1, but I'm not 100% sure.

(I'd love to post on CMP forums real or repro, but my acct is broken and I can't get anyone to fix it.)

What I'm pretty sure is fake:

    The front barrel band.

    Fake?
    -It's too nice.
-The metal is "soft" and not springy. IE: I take the screw out and compress the band it just bends.
-This type of barrel band is pretty rare.

    Real?
-No scratches from another type of barrel band on the barrel, but that could just mean a real type 1 was swapped with a fake one.

    What I'm not sure about:

    The Stock:

    Fake?
-No markings except '77' in the stock, and '5' in the sling cutout. suspiciously, the barrel also has a '5' stamped on top and no other markings.

    Real?
-The original cartouches may have been sanded off?

(If the stock is real, I'll restore the original finish.)

Last up is the rear sight.
(I know the recoil plate is repro, I have a GI one coming in the mail soon.)

    Fake?
It's not totally consistent with some real sights I've seen.
B-IP may be correct, but it is incredibly rare, and still on the carbine? In combination with commercial recoil plate, sear, extractor? I don't think so.

    Real?
It doesn't look like you-know-who's pile of fake sights.
It isn't NOT consistent with real sights I've seen.

My type 1 bands on rifles direct from CMP were not soft. The screw does look suspect. Is there a shadow on the barrel from a type 3 band? Sometimes they are faint. I have had Springfield post war replacements that had zero markings, and this one being high wood is suspect too. I could never tell anything about flip sights.

The appearance of the barrel band and flip sight are pretty consistent with the repros that I have on my Postal Meter (until/unless I can find real items). Look at the finish on the sight spring.

Can't say positively about the stock. It may be a genuine GI that's been sanded heavily. Does the trigger housing protrude below the belly of the stock?
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Yes less than a quarter inch. Looks about like the ones on the CMP auction site.
I did find a pic of a reproduction high wood - and the repro looks a lot "fatter" and the trigger group does not hang lower.

Starting to have concerns on my trigger housing.

I'd think I should see machine marks here:

          Side pics, etc:

I do see a few things that are correct for S'G'... but the lack of machining marks overall bother me.

Your trigger housing looks good from your photos. I wouldn't worry about that part being GI.

SG Trigger guard looks good to me. Some manufacturers have more machine marks than others....

Sounds like I've got a real stock then.
