Black Friday? More like C&R Friday. How did I do?

They had a discount rack, where I spied a semi-auto rimfire I hadn't seen before.
Winchester 74, a quick serial lookup put this at 1946.

I took it out shooting right after. Prints really nice patterns at 50 yards, windage is spot on, but it shoots a bit high.

a little research says I got a darn good deal...

Then on the wall rack, I saw an M1 carbine...

It went immediately into the impulse buy cart. I think I might have overpaid a bit unfortunately.

I tore it down and compared it to charts, seems like it's more or less a USGI gun. I think the front sight and stock, as well as the recoil plate are repro.

Unfortunately, I couldn't take possession of the magazine.

Then I jokingly asked if he had an Arisaka with intact mum and airplane sights. He did. ****.

Has the monopod too. No idea on the value of this. I most definitely overpaid though. It's in pretty good shape, unfortunately some pitting on the OUTSIDe of the barrel under the wood.

No import marks that I could find.

        Nice finds!

Oh, hey, that Arisaka there... You don't have strong feelings about the bolt, do you? Because I need one of those

Anyway cool finds, the M1 especially. Though you appear to be missing the cleaning rod and bayonet on the Arisaka the sights, monopod and chrysanthemum are all very cool.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

I definitely want to find an arisaka bayo... those are very cool.

I wonder what the ballpark value on the arisaka and m1c is.

Call up the guys at La Mesa Collectables in Santee. Not exactly local, for you anyway, but last time I looked they had a few. Might be willing to ship, I don't know.

Arisakas dont go for much. But it is rare to find a nice one with all of the bells and whistles. I know I've spent more on the accessories than I did on my rifle

Congrats, remember you didn't overpay, you just bought it at a future market value. Besides, you'll be enjoying your new acquisitions and it's something you wanted, so don't worry it. If it makes you happy, then who cares.

BTW your wife is a keeper.

Google says the s'g' marked receiver on the m1 is collectible i should try and find a usgi recoil plate.

pretty sure birch isn't right though. Only marking i found at all was in the sling cutout, looks like [5]
There may be an OL but he O and L were stamped too close together to have come from one stamp.

I'll try dating the Arisaka tomorrow. Cursory glance says early production.

Wife is pretty cool, but now that she's shouldered the M1 Carbine, I don't think I can get it away from her.
