Got one of the unrefurbished Mosin M44s from Samco, and I sure am not disappointed! First of all, it's a hex receiver! Yep, a hex receiver M44. The make/date on the receiver tang is 1931 Tula. The rifle is 1945 Izhevsk, and all parts that have markings are Izhevsk (except for the receiver). All numbers match, and I'm sure it's all original. They must've used a spare receiver when assembling this rifle, from a deadlined M91/30. Or did they mark the receivers at the time of manufacture, and not when they were assembled into a rifle? The bluing is mostly gone, the stock is nice, and the bore... the bore is pristine, with a perfect bullet test. The rifle's condition is easy to explain, as it has the "У" stamp, so it was a training rifle. Carried a lot, shot rarely
Samco was great too. I ordered on a Saturday, it got shipped on Tuesday, and I had it on Monday of the week after. Quite happy with the other rifle too, although it's not matching (the bolt doesn't match the rest of the rifle). It's still in a very good condition with a pristine bore. It will be a good shooter, I think.
Are there many hex M44s in this last batch?
So, the M44:
The hex receiver:
And the receiver is a 1931 Tula, as you can see:
Both rifles from Samco, the M44 and Yugo M24/52c (Vz. 24 rebuilt by the Yugos after WWII):
