    R.A. Litschert Scope

I just picked up a Litschert 15X scope at the Reno Show, got what I think is a very good price on it ($300.00) because there was a fine "hair" at 11 o'clock on the rear reticle - turned out to be just a sliver of grime caused by someone adjusting focus or truing the reticle, peeled a slice of grime out of the threads just enough to be visible. Lifted it out with a toothpick. It's going on a Winchester 75.

I have the correct "Unertl" bases - an "L" for the rear and a "B" up front (.167 & .225) but I'm wondering how hard & fast those specs really are. Even with the tube "centered" in the rear mount the scope tube angles high. If a .175" rear works fine, then it works fine, right?

The difference in barrel diameter at the mounting points is about .058" - so long as that height difference is maintained, should be OK?

Post some pics when you get it all set up. My Model 75 has a vintage scope on it too...

I think bigbossman and myself, saw you walking out through the hotel lobby with that.
The original scope was a Winchester 8X, not sure what they used for mounts. Have you tried an arbor bore sighter on it to see how close it is?

Could be - Saturday, about 5:30pm is when I skipped out.

Don't have a bore sighter. The info I got on bases is the rear should use a .167" height and front uses .225" which I happen to have. Probably came with the rifle a dozen years ago when I bought it at the San Jose Gun Exchange. But, using those bases definitely causes the scope to angle up, even with the tube centered in the rear of the mount. I have a bunch of bases of varying heights and will probably fiddle with it a bit.

Very nice. Does the rubber eye cup help?

I presume the reason for base height difference is that the barrel at the front mounting point is .058" smaller diameter than at the rear. How "in stone" is maintaining that difference in the mounts?

            Yeah, that was you, then.

You were carrying it pretty casually, and we were considering a "smash and grab"...... but then a bunch of tarted up young girls in really short black dresses and really tall high heels spilled out of the elevator and we got distracted.

            Lucky for you.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!
