Here's a pic of my great grandfather. Retired from the Navy as a Rear Admiral. Harvey Edward Overesch....I believe this picture was taken on board the USS San Francisco.

His service stretched from WW1, China, WW2 and early CIA days. Ambassador to Japan and England. Also attended the USNA, returned as comandant of USNA in 1943.
I also want to thank my grandfathers James Castle Sr., who served in France and Belgium, George Ziebell in Korea. Unfortunately there are no photos of their time there...also my dad James Castle Jr. who served in Vietnam.
Here's a pic...1970 Pearl Harbor, Kitty Hawk, on the way over....

Happy Veterans' Day, Bros!!! I volunteered back in 1964, but many of us who served were drafted. The Army shielded us from all the animosity and scorn of the draft dodging, hippie, liberal Adam/Henry's (Alpha/Hotels) so it was certainly a shock to come home and to be scorned, verbally abused, ridiculed, mocked and generally mentally abused. I served my country proudly; and, did not expect any thanks are gratitude. But, I did not expect the ingratitude, hatred and disrepect by those who did not serve. I am glad it is no longer the case for our returning Brothers nowadays. I am aware that when some people say "Thank you for your service", it may be just a platitude of political correctness but it beats the heck out of being spit upon and having dog **** thrown at you.Comment

OP, your pictures choked me up. I don't have any handy share. My Grand was in the Spanish American War. My Dad was in WW2, 2 tours in Korea and South East Asia. 31 Years in the Army. My brother was in the Army for 30 years and I was in the Regular Army for 6 years and 8 years in the Guard.
Thank you for remembering your family as well as all the veterans that served. In response to your thank you, you are most welcome. It is truly heart warming to know that our service was not wasted.I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.Comment
