    Parkerizing question

Guys, my friend is restoring a 1903a3 to all origional issue condition.
    The question is;
is there anyone in the LA area that can do the old military "green" parkerizing that you know of?
That can do a whole gun, receiver and all?
I know, and so does he, that unless the guy doing it has an FFL, my friend has to be there for the whole process.

While it could be a shooter, this one will be a show peice mostly.

    Please advise.
    Thanks

'green' parkerizing is caused by long term storage in cosmoline....

      +1

Yep, they turned a greenish hue after long time storage and covered in cosmoline. The Parkerizined finish absorbed the greenish hue from the cosmolie.

They all started grey in color, Manganese Parkerizing original color.

IIRC - there might be dyes that you can soak the freshly Parkerize rifle in, for it to get that greenish color. There are also firearms coatings (paint) that could simulate that color. People have been known to coat the firearms in very dark grease and trying to accelerate the aging process to get the greenish hue.

I do mean to Hi-jack but I've always been of the assumption that re-finishing (re-bluing, parkerizing, painting, etc) antique weapons was a bad idea and could lower the collector's value of the weapon...

        Am I misinformed?

Can't you loan it to a friend that also happens to do parkerizing? I believe you are allowed to loan long guns.

So if you can loan long guns, does that mean you cant loan handguns? As long as the borrower is legal and its a short time ( like less than 30 days or something), I didnt know there was an issue with either.

            Am I incorrect here?

I believe you can loan both. I just left out handguns to be safe. I found nothing that prohibits it if both parties are eligible to own firearms.

OFF TOPIC: Yes you can loan handguns too, but the borrower needs to have an HSC. For both long guns and handguns the borrower has to be somebody "personally known" to you.

ON TOPIC: There is a company called Orion7 in New York that does the grey/green parkerizing. I bought one of their 7.62 NATO M1 rifles a few years back and the finish is green. But I don't think they parkerize stuff for other people anymore. They only do rifles that they build or customers M1 Rifles and Carbines sent in for total rebuild.
