Mauser Crest Question

Who made the Mauser with the crest that is just the word Mauser ?
I cant seem to find any pics or info in my searches

There were some commercial and contract Mausers produced that just had the Mauser banner stamped on them. Does it look like the one in this picture?

Front ring. Its from a Chinese contract.

Well the Mauser company, obviously.

Their Standard Modell (the K98k's direct predecessor) is the only one I can remember that has the Mauser banner on the upper receiver ring, like in watt's picture. They were generally contract rifles. Many of them went to China and will have the Nationalist sunburst stamped next to the serial numbers.

Other contract Mausers will have the banner stamped into the side of the stock's butt and/or on the lower receiver ring. as the upper ring was reserved for the buyer's national coat-of-arms/crest/seal. Most of these are South American contract rifles chambered in 7mm or 7.65mm.

Yes, like that one.
Receiver is excellent condition, but bore is shot out.
Finish almost looks like a thin black paint instead of blue.

That screams Chinese contract.

The Oberndorf factory produced the Banner Mausers. The banner crest on the "Chinese made" rifles is a close copy of the German made contract rifle, but the difference I "think" was in the "M".
Another 12hr shift, and I can't fire up the brain cell containing that piece of info.

If it is a German made rifle there should be proof marks on the side of the barrel near the serial number and on the bottom of the barrel.

The Chinese ones are a mixed bag. The arsenal made ones should be decent, but I understand that there were some produced in village workshops that may be suspect. If its German made it should be good as any other.

As TRAP said, the German made contract rifles were made in Oberndorf Germany. [very desirable colletables]

Some of the Chinese made knock offs are OK at best. Some were junk from the get go. Parts for both made from unobtainium.

Any Good? Depends on where made and present condition.

Post some pics. Get better answers.

The Banner Mausers were made in Oberndorf, Germany, as stated above, by Mauser Werke.

Real Standard Modells from Oberndorf are great Mausers when found in good condition. Sadly, many of them went to China and they are pretty beat.
