Just called them and they will ship to Ca.

Well that's good they will ship them here. I wouldn't stress too much on the drill rifle thing, as the only drawback is the future resale value may not rise as much as an original. I think it's odd they don't give any details on the advertisement showing where they come from or who rebuilds them... did they say who it is?

They told me that once the order is placed then they build the rifle.
I'm thinking about ordering one to use as a sporter build.

I would most likely use it to build an 03A4 repro for hunting and cast bullet matches.

Since when!?!?! I reamed out one of their sales staff when they made that decision and he said that our laws were too prohibitive to them

Not sure when they started, but the guy I spoke to was friendly and said sure.
Suppose to be in excellent condition, like new.

why not buy an already sporterized 03a3 and configure it how you want. They are cheaper than even these.

If it were me I would not buy any recovered drill rifle that had a torch weld applied to any part of the receiver ring. Welding at the junction of the barrel and the receiver is the most common place that these rifles were deactivated. Buy a good rifle that has already been sported or a rifle or action that has not been welded. fwiw
