Anyone have one of these in their collection?
MAUSER K98 BNZ SINGLE CLAW SNIPERS RIFLE
8mm Mauser; 97% blue, excellent bore, very good stock, 23.5'' barrel, Original blue finish and matching laminated wood stock and handguard. Stamped on the right side of the rear sight sleeve with two eagle/WaA77 proofs. The military acceptance mark eagle/swaz appears on the left side of the barrel chamber. This rifle is proper, original and matching with the following noted: The original rifle serial number is 4855 and this number is stamped on the wood and all numbered metal parts except the rear sight assembly which is numbered 4845 to match the applied number on the scope bases, mount and rings. The serial number on the left side of the barrel has had the first number 5 cancelled with the number 4 added. This discrepancy is obviously a factory marking error. Typical for a late gun, the rifle displays late war characteristics of rough machining and finishing, with stamped bands and triggerguard/floorplate. Cupped buttplate with checkering. Winter trigger attached, marked "Mod.98" and with the code eeu43. Original front sight hood and cleaning rod are present. The stock is not duffle cut. The scope is a Dialytan 4X Hensoldt manufacture, marked with the code "bmj", serial numbered 75720 above the blue + mark. The scope has excellent clear optics with a heavy pointer/crossbars reticle. We know the history of this rifle since the 1960's when it was purchased at an OGCA show from the Veteran. It was sold to Dr. Geoff Sturgess and sent to England in the 1980's, and remained in his collection since until recently offered for sale. This rifle is pictured in the book "Sniper Variations of the German K98k Rifle" by Richard D Law, page 121. This rifle is one of the nicest 100% original bnz single claw sniper rifles we have seen, and we are happy to be able to make it available for sale back here in the U.S.A. Mechanically excellent, the bore is bright and sharp, the wood shows minor handling marks and scuffs. C&R/FFL,
