Well, I took the tacticool nagant to the range today.
First of all, I have to say that muzzle brake makes a huge difference for recoil, and surprisingly it never flew off. After hearing so many negative reviews about it breaking off after the first shot, I was worried. It was $20 though... so... why not? It did start to shift a little bit because the fit was a little loose, and when I went to tighten it down, one of the bolts sheared right off. When I got home I replaced the bolts and shimmed the brake, so hopefully it won't happen again. If it does, I may consider welding it on. I really liked the difference it made.
As for the rails... after finally getting the scope zeroed, the mount started to wiggle. It turns out it was the fault of the little piece that fits into the stock rear sight. Apparently it was just a little bit thinner than stock, so it moved a little. When I got home I used a thin piece of sheet metal to shim it and put a good amount of loctite on the bolts. It seems pretty sturdy now, but we'll see.
I still need to pick up some taller rings so I can set the scope back a little farther. The objective hits the rail with the rings I have, so I had to set it farther forward. The lack of eye relief was literally a pain in the neck. If I do get taller rings though, I am pleased that the rail sits far back enough to mount a scope with short relief.
All in all, it wasn't great... but what can you really expect out of an $80 rifle with $60 worth of accessories? With a little ingenuity, it seems to be all taken care of now though. I'm planning on taking it out again soon. Hopefully it won't disappoint me again.
