    Toothpaste to clean your guns??

I did a search on this forum and found nothing.

I overheard some people talking about gun cleaning, and someone recommended toothpaste to remove crud from the chambers and bores of milsurp guns.

Anyone heard of this or actually done it?
I know toothpaste contains abrasives, but will it hurt anything? Damage bluing or other finishes?
It doesn't matter how scary, ugly, uncomfortable, or inconvenient self defense can be. Like it or not, you will never, ever be relieved of your duty and responsibility to defend your life, your family, your country and your freedom.

How much ammo do I need? Enough to last me the rest of my life, and then lot more for later.

I would caution using any kind of abrasive on finishes but I would be interested in seeing how toothpaste does on a dark bore.

Seeing how it's meant for teeth, I can't see it doing any damage to metal

Never used tooth paste but in the Marines we used to use dhaving foam when for really gunked up stuff. Just spray it in and let it sit. Then wipe off and the carbon will be so dried up it just flakes off

One of my Mosin's had a grubby barrel, no matter what I used to clean it, so I tried toothpaste, the barrel really cleaned up much better. Don't think there is any way toothpaste could hurt a barrel.

My thoughts exactly. I will get busy cleaning my guns with toothpaste right after I go to the supply house for some wooden welding rods.

I've found that the Cinnamon Clove natural Tom's toothpaste cleans the best.

Ok guys, I'm having a hard time here. I know 4/5 dentists recommend Crest, but I really like Tom's

Also, should I follow up this cleaning with some mouthwash to dissolve any corrosive salts?

I'm a colgate man myself, or pepsodent, which one will really "whiten" my barrel though? I reckon if you're going to use it on an AR, you'll need Sensodyne, being that they're so sensitive...
