    C&R prices retail vrs wholesale

What is your opinion. It seems in our small world of collecting that the value of a C&R is based on what is the lowest price you can get one from a importer at the moment.
Example most Chinese SKSs sell retail [ gun stores gun shows ] for 400-600 dollars. these are just run of the mill Chinese SKSs. Russian and others go for more. We all know the SKSs originally from china imported from Albania are not exactly Beautiful but they are collectible and good shooters. at 300 dollars or less this seems to be the new standard for what a chinese SKS goes for here. At 375 it will not usually get sold fast. condition does not seem to drive up the selling price much. It should.

SKS prices have always confounded me. A couple years ago things went nuts and one minute you could pick up a matching Tula for 2-300 bucks, next thing everyone wanted 800 dollars for them. Now I see Yugo 59/66's with price tags like 700 dollars and just scratch my head. I'd rather buy a 300-dollar Chinese than most any Yugo but that's just me. I think as long as the Chinese ones in the current batch are still readily available from the importers, they just won't pull as good a price as some of the others. Really kicking myself for not grabbing a Romy from Turners when they were like 159 a while back. Oh well, guess I really don't NEED multiple SKS's, the one I have is awesome and I only paid $200 for it. Keep in mind that gun store prices and reality are two very different things John. Why the sudden fire sale anyway? Just downsizing or losing interest in the collection? Maybe you need a carcano or an arisaka to liven things up!

Personally I'd really only consider an Chinese SKS for the 300 and under. I have no problem putting in a little elbow grease for a fixer upper if the price is right.
