What's the year of manufacture, that'll be a pretty good clue, but the grain looks like walnut.

        that'd be walnut.

        if the stock looks like "a blonde", she's a beech. if she's "a brunette", she's a walnut.

see if you can pick which is which, and which is more like yours!

It doesn't look like the beech in your picture, looks more like the walnut one.

          It's manufactured in 1950, serial# 938xxx

Pretty sure mine is Walnut, but it is a weird shade, very light for Walnut, don't you think? Did they ever make any of them in anything other than Walnut or Beech?

The year of manufacturer of the stock will be stamped on the stock, under the buttplate. Just something else to look for when checking for the name tag.
The Roman numeral will be the month followed by the last two digits of the year.

I think numbers under the butt plate are VI 47.

So is it a beech stock?

                  Thanks

It should be. IIRC, The last walnut stocks were made in 1946.

                      Uploaded better picture.

I read on some threads that there is no clear cutoff when Swiss switched to beech from walnut.

                      Thanks

And it European walnut, not American black walnut that we are all used to.

It can be a light honey color. Walnut should have a more open grain and finer figuring than beech.

My guess is beech judging by the pattern of the grain. Especially on the handguards. Search for pictures of 'beech gun stock' and compare the two.

                          Beech does this.

What do you think the stock I have is? Is it beech or walnut?

Its honey like orange, not very light/blonde like typical beech.

Is the picture of enfield you posted beech? Then mostly what I have is beech, color looks close to the one I have.

                            Thanks

I can only see the end of the stock. I thought maybe walnut, but I changed my mind. Plus 1950 serial. Im going with beech now

The top rifle in this picture is beech. The rest are walnut. Walnut should have long grain lines running the lengths of the rifle.

The one I have looks like the bottom picture. Dark on the bottom and blonde on top.
