CLEO questions

so i am starting to fill out my 03 paperwork and one copy is supposed to be sent to the my CLEO. would that be my county sheriff (very anti gun) or local police chief (unknown 2A opinion). i don't think they have any say over me getting my 03, but do i need to sent them a letter explaining why i am sending them my 03 application?and what exactly does the CLEO do with the 03 application?

I sent mine to the local police.

Anti-gun or not, all they can do is tell them if you are a criminal or not, otherwise its a heads up to them.

I did not include a letter.

If you live in the city, send the copy to your Chief of Police. Otherwise, your Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) is your county Sheriff. It is just a courtesy/info copy so don't sweat it.

I didn't send a copy to the LAPD... I picked my poison and went with the Sherriff. At least he is elected and not some city council stooge. Besides LASD doesn't patrol in LA city so youd have to make a special trip to take a look. Just my paranoia talking.

Explain nothing. Send them the form so they can throw it in the trash or whatever they do with it.

If you called 911 to report a crime from your home, who would respond? If it is the police send it to the chief, if it is the the Sheriff department, send it to the Sheriff.
