The Rasheed is on my short list of "wants." And I agree with you in that you got it a great price, congrats.

Looks like a beauty, I'd love to get a hold of a Rasheed. Never shot one but if the hakim is any indication, recoil will likely be lighter than an equivalent piston-operated rifle as the direct-impingment soaks up a lot of recoil. Definitely get a gas-valve tool to adjust your gas so it cycles propery and doesn't spit brass into the next county, unless you don't care where it goes I guess. Adjusting it will ease wear on the rifle though, so it is a good idea, and different types of ammo will cycle differently. When I had my hakim I bought a metal valve tool from a guy on Gunboards, jb something or other, but I've seen the tools on ebay too for a reasonable price. Expect to pay 20-25 dollars for a good one. The plastic cheap ones break. Sweet rifle and I'd agree you did well on that one. Get out and shoot that baby!

              Very cool!
When I was younger, I briefly considered buying the Rasheed instead of a Norinco SKS. I think the SKS was maybe $15 cheaper so I went with that. Lesson learned: the C&R you see today, might not be around tomorrow.

Anyhow, back to the Rasheed... after our troops invaded Iraq, it was discovered that Iraq had produced the carbine. It's a shame we will never see them here... at least with our current crop of politicians in power.

All, New to this forum, but not Gunboards. I just got back from Iraq I saw 2 or 3 Iraqi made Rashids. I am not sure if folks are aware of them, so I thought I would post. I have pictures, but I think the file sizes are too large to post - above the 300kb limit. Going from memory the one I...

Arabic is written right to left, so all markings should be as such... I would think

I see no number or letter in Arabic that looks like the marking you have. It almost looks like a curvy version of just a "II"

Thw symbol on the magazine is an ancient egyptian crown. It is a combination of the upper and lower kingdoms. Probably an egyptian armory mark.

I believe this is correct and mine has the same marking.

Man that is a beautiful weapon! And chambered in bountiful AK food to boot. Very nice pickup.

Are these complicated parts-wise or more challenging to field strip and maintain than an SKS? Are they robust and reliable like an AK?

I agree the Persian characters are neat. I recently got a 98/29 and that is my favorite aspect of it.

They're ridiculously easy to strip down. If you need to acquire parts for one it can be a little dicey, but they are very simple weapons, just like the ljungman and hakim, just a bit smaller.
