m24/47 "possible" issue - Please Help - Thanks

Ok, so I just unjailed my 24/47.

Took it home to do a thorough cleaning and when I took the stock off, the barrel came loose from the receiver. I happened to be holding onto just the barrel portion and the weight of the receiver made it "spin" loose.

Should I just clean the threads well and apply some blue loc-tite and rethread?

Thanks CG. Ive never had this happen before.

If you can, return it to whatever huckster sold it to you.

It should take a vice, a special wrench, and a fair amount of force to remove the barrel. You can't just screw it back on, because in all likelihood the headspace will be wrong.

I am glad you discovered this before attempting to shoot it.

That is a pretty scary thing to happen. You shouldn't be able to unscrew a rifle barrel with your bare hands. That is a sign it has been messed with by bubba and will need a qualified gunsmith to make sure it's safe to shoot.

Unless you are really attached to the rifle, I would take it back.

Where are you located? I'm in Tehachapi and have a Mauser barrel vise and action wrench. If it tightens up with the sights pointed straight up it may be OK. We can see if it chambers and test fire at a range only 15 minutes away.

Unless you got it from a retailer who can swap it out for another 24/47.

I'm in Sacramento. Everything does appear to be lined up when "tightened" by hand. It was a ppt here in sac from another calgunner. But I don't believe he knew. Ive pmd him but nothing yet.

Is it a VZ-24 or a Yugo 24-47? Both are great Mausers!
