    flare gun

I was left this flare gun from my grandfather. I've found info on the device itself but am having trouble finding any modern signals it could use? Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Well, does it look like it takes 12 gauge shells? Or the 26mm version that many of the older flare guns use?

(edit) Okay, after about a minute on google, it looks like yours is a Sedgey Mark IV or Mark V flare gun from around WWII. It looks like it uses 22mm flares, so you may be SOL. You could probably have an adapter made bu any of the companies that make shotgun sub-caliber chamber inserts, so that you could use 12 gauge flares in it. It should be roughly about 10 gauge as it is. However, it would be both stupidly dangerous and highly illegal to use it for anything other than flares.

It's a Mark V in 10ga, and there was a 12ga insert they advertised in 30's? that would shoot shotshells. Not a good idea in a Sedgley.
monkeyboy has the best solution, a 10ga to 12ga insert, and use the 2.5" signal flares.
Or, pay IMA $180 for an original box of 10 USN green signal flares.
Original Item: An original box of ten 10-gauge green flares dated 6-16-41. These are the flares used by the U.S. Navy Sedgley Mark V Signal Pistol. The flares are far rarer now than the pistols, and a full box is even rarer. It is in fact a mystery how these managed to go all the way through the Second World War without having been used. The base of each cartridge is marked VFM No. 10, and the closing wad is marked SIGNAL LIGHT VERY MK II GREEN. One only.

Shot a pair of these out of a SxS 10ga one night, at a 55gal drum across a parking lot between two steel buildings. They're loaded with buckshot size balls that start burning as they leave the barrel, and they will ricochet off any hard surface. It got real exciting around there for a few minutes.
