another vote here for leave it alone.. it's beautiful the way it is, you did a great job.

and I also agree it's one of the best looking tiger striped wood on a surplus military rifle that I've ever seen.

its funny I can't even see the tiger stripes in your before photos.

if you got all that goodness from one bayonet I suggest you go buy a katana...(a nice Japanese naval version, I've held one and they're worth the money.)

I want to see a close up of the plum colored extractor if you get a chance.

        Wow! Nice work!

Makes we want to get my unissued cosmo covered M48 out of the safe and in the sun!
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

Funny you should mention that, as I was extremely close to buying one of those Swiss Pioneer bayonets Copes had. I don't own a Swiss rifle, but thought those bayonets were pretty awesome. I just couldn't bring myself to plunk down $200 for one. I know if I did, my very next step would of been to start browsing Simpson Limited for a K-31 or K-11!

Here is the extractor. I guess the "plum" color was caused from the hot bluing process. Nothing really to brag about, but I just thought it looked cool and I appreciated the uniqueness of it.

very cool, I'm no expert but I think that is pretty unique , even if millions were made that way, and I love little things that make my weapon better or should I say different than someone elses.

thanks for posting the photos and I think you should go for that bayonet, for all we know the Swiss rifle you're going to get to match it may better than this one.
(but I agree 200 is about 150 too much for a surplus bayonet.)
