I have never seen a post showing the proper use of a Jag that comes in a mosin cleaning kit. do you wrap a patch around it and push it threw. Sounds simple but because i never used one i do not know. Even after a smart guy tells me how to use it i doubt i will.

What I do is lay the patch across the muzzle end, evenly. I take the jag and press it straight down into the patch forcing it into the barrel. It's a tight fit but it works.

Sounds good to me, that way the metal never comes in contact with the bore. In WW 2 i think they used hemp wrapped around the jag in Russia ?

What you do is throw that stuff in a drawer and use a good coated one piece cleaning rod wit a brass jag.

Steel on steel is fine on a rifle you don't care about....

I have 2 expensive one piece cleaning rods i always use. I was just interested in how it was used back in the day. Just looking at a cleaning jag looks like bore trouble if you used hemp or some other wrapping material.

So what did the Russians, Germans, usa use for cleaning patches . cloth, hemp, burlap etc ?
