Darrels or S&K scope mounts work the best (I have an S&K). You still should use loctite on the fasteners.

For scopes, the NCStar 2-7x32 pistol scope mentioned above works fine. You can find them for around $40 online for the non-illuminated reticle one (the IR is a waste of money IMO).

Hey can you use those mounts 0n a m38? I dont see why not... isn't the only different thing from the m44 & m38 the bayonet?right?

Yes, a M44 scope mount will work on a M38. I've tried it. The only accessory I've found that isn't compatible are the M44 muzzle brakes. The front sight hood on the M38 is set slightly further forward.

If you don't care about the historical value of the gun, a rock solid mount would probably be the way to go for long term stability.
