    CalGuns member group on facebook

Anybody a member of the group? I see a lot of conflicting comments about law on there and thought maybe it would be like on here where someone comes along and sets the record straight, but doesn't seem to be that way there.

BTW, I know it most likely has nothing to do with the ownership of calguns.

Was told last night that the law changed and 50 year old guns are no longer exempt from having to be transferred. May be correct for all I know. Haven't checked into it in a while.

Also was told that "antique" guns from before 1899 are exempt - handgun or rifle. I thought that all handguns fell into the registration process regardless of age...then again I could be wrong.

My point is that here on CG, those would have been either validated or debunked by a very reputable member in no time....which is why I trust getting my gun law info here and ONLY here.

I was a member while it was civil. Then all of a sudden all everyone did was fight and argue like they do here.

Then I left. Shortly after left Facebook all together. Haven't looked back.

this would be correct. All firearm post 1899 have to be transfered through a dealer in CA, including rifles and shotguns. 50+ year old rifles and shotguns lost their exemption at the begining of the year.

this is true as well. If it is pre-99, it isn't considered a firearm for terms of buying or selling.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

This was just an example of what I was talking about...not really a question to be answered..

The difference is you can't reply to a specific post on FB in the Calguns group. Your comment about not being aware of the changes in the law gets lost in the comments that follow and when someone does chime in on what they think the truth is, there is no way to know who they are replying to. Then 10 comments later a few people will add more incorrect statements and it grows like a snowball. In my opinion, it makes it very frustrating.

Also, how do you define a "reputable member" on the FB group? Half of the clowns in there don't use their real name, and even if they do their real name isn't recognizable as their CG username. I have a hard time taking anyone serious in there when you see names like "Distortus Maximus" or "Jar Head". I usually just click the block button when I see those kind of names since I don't want to read what they have to say.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

This thing should go somewhere everyone will see it and be prepared if they run across it.

Not an old man. Just wise.

Facebook is like smoking pot. A lot of people do it, and it's all the rage as a foundation for social acceptance; but it merely makes you dumber and is one of the biggest wastes of time you will ever invest in, with no qualitative gain after their use.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

Don't know about that one but I tried a couple other Facebook gun pages in the past ... So much FUD and silliness I couldn't stand it. Worst part either no moderators or, just as bad, the page owner just deletes everything they disagree with.

If you decide to try it, just be careful and check if they're "Public" groups where everyone in the world can see your posts under your real name (or fake FB name).
