    CMP rifles and ammo

    anyone else get that email?

looks like for service and field grade rifles they are now going to combine the SA and H&R rifles together and itll be luck of the draw.

and if I remember correctly, the dreaded sealed spam cans of HXP are now for sale, looks like our ammo supply is finally running out

The spam cans that are currently up are 240 rounds boxed, I believe the last hurrah will be the spam cans of clipped HXP, but it's getting closer every day. I'm just glad I got my Garands last year.

Edit: I haven't bought any HXP since I discovered the PPU new manufacture Garand ammo. The price is so close to the HXP that I'd rather have the new stuff.

it used to be so much cheaper, I think it was like $100 plus 20 shipping for like 384 rounds in en blocks. but it is getting closer to the end.

I got the email too. It also mentioned an increase in field grade and service grade rifles prices. Orders received before 8-7 prices same.

What's so "dreaded" about the spam cans or the hxp inside? I've shot lots of it and found it to be good quality. Only issue now is the steel jacket and the prohibition on using it on BLM land. Our local outdoor range has no issue with it, so no big loss....

              Am I missing something else?

what a timely thread. I have been on the fence for a while between a service grade HRA and a special HRA for a thousand bucks any feedback on either bought there lately would be very very helpful

IMHO, Service Grade all the way...my buddy just got one and it looks unissued. A real beauty. TE/ME 0,<1. We were both stunned when he unboxed it.

IIRC, the Service Grades are coming with new stocks, but you can request USGI wood if you want.
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
                  Come on...what harm??

It has been said that once the clipped cans come out for sale, that would be the end of CMPs HXP ammo inventory.

It is "dreaded" because Orest Michaels stated that the clipped HXP in spam cans was going to be the last HXP surplus ammo sold by CMP -- an indicator that CMP is almost sold out of it.

I just recieved 2 springfields service grade. 1 usgi stock and 1 cmp stock. The cmp looks awesome. The CMP gal I was working with stated, they were down to their last few all together

Not the end of CMP or CMP's ammo inventory -- just the stock of the Greek surplus HXP .30-06.

They'll still sell plenty of other ammo, including other US surplus that pops up from time to time.

Depends. All of the ones I got lately had USGI wood, which I didn't request (but didn't mind at all either. The one on the HRAs was pretty much untouched).

With that said, I'm happy that my Garand needs are mostly satisfied, CMP's been real good to me (good TE and ME, mostly 1 and 1+, once - a 2, very good stocks, mostly correct parts and original barrels, some NM parts), didn't even have to sell any to find better ones. Even got a wartime Springfield like I wanted, with correct wartime parts. If only CMP got SG Winchesters, I'd be happy and content
