The Chinese SKSs that were brought into the USA before the ban, were they made for the civilian commercial export market or were they made to sell around the world as military rifles.

Yes and called them sporter style ? No bayonet either. Seen one at LGS in Riverside. Looked new .

I bought mine in '91 it came with a spike bayonet and import markings

I have been told by knowledgeable SKS collectors that ALL Chinese SKS rifles were made in military factories to military standards. Some were just stamped as exportable civilian marketed rifles.

It is ongoing nonsense out there that some believe the civilian model Norincos were cheaply and flimsily built copies of .mil guns.

I have one in a tupperware stock with a crappy NC Star scope. I do have the original stock but no bayo. The first time I shot it I was surprised at how well it functioned and felt. I think people underestimate them. Mine has a Norinco, Pomona, CA stamp on it.
How long has it been since Norinco was in Pomona?

i have a 1956 all matching 6 digit chinese, and a late 80s production SKS with a non threaded barrel and stamped parts. both function the same PERFECT
