That's why they say there's more fake K98K snipers and SS rifles than real ones.

You would probably be able to tell the counterfeit apart from the real thing under scrutiny once its actually applied.

I wonder if anyone has used these things to stamp a Mosin ... then tried to sell the thing at a gun show?

I have seen a fair amount of unscrupulous types over the years...

Not a new scam -- back in the late fifties and sixties there was a ton of faked colt percussion weapons --
Making rare models from common colts and others.

This is something that I always thought about, because stamps can be so easily made nowadays. Shame on people that do this.

Have two guns (not rifles or pistols) covered with fake markings (on one they didn't even remove the 1960's Yugo production code), seller was straight forward, but, faking has been going on for some time.

This page is quite useful - often times the research hasn't been done - and your supposed MG42 part (actually a Yugo part) has stamps that say it was made in a leather buckle factory.

However - you just have to be careful.
The construction of the metal will usually be the first and most damning indicator of a fake. The German's stamped some thick steel - that takes quite a sizable machine, most of the fakes, go for thinner metal.

I agree Trap, it's the firing squad for anyone who would use these to fake authenticity!

There's only one reason for these to exist, and it ain't for making a Mitchell's Mauser. They should be as illegal as a set of counterfeit $100 bill printing plates!

gunboat, it's been said there's probably 5 times more fake Colt Walkers, then there are real ones.

Bastards. It sad people do this.
God may have made men, but Samuel Colt made them equal.

Send me pics of your: Colt Detective Special, AMT Hardballer, pre-64 Winchester Model 70. I'm looking for them.
