Well ain't that a pisser? Looks legit to me but I don't and haven't owned a k98 mauser, yet. Then again, some of them may just want to snag it for themselves but I surely don't know. If it looks like it'd be a good shooter and you get a good deal I'd buy the fool thing anyhow, worry about the details later. If it turns out a turd, wait a year and sell it for more than you paid anyway.

Guys - if you're a new K98k collector, start with a Russian capture or Yugo rework. Buy it for its value as a shooter. And then study up on the subject. For several years, before you consider any SS-marked or sniper versions.

I see a whole lot of K98k newbies try to go straight into advanced collecting, and end up paying high prices for faked "upgraded" Russian captures that were here by the crateful a decade ago for $200 or so each. And then posting pictures and asking questions about it on one of these boards AFTER they bought it.

It kind of struck me as the Khyber pass look (as on the fake Enfields) but I got so sidetracked by that 143.

Agreed Crunch, that's why I keep saying, if the price is right, like reasonable for a run-of-the-mill and not 2000 dollars because Himmler's bodyguard carried it or some crap. Authenticating some of this stuff is akin to trying to show the science behind a given religion so you just kinda take a chance on it.
