Another new to me Enfield Mark III

WOW! That is really something else. I've got a Lithgow and a Longbranch and it's really cool to see what came before. Really nice wood and clear markings. Thanks for sharing. Have you shot it? If not, do you intend to?
EDIT: Here is the Wikipedia page if anyone wants to read up on these.
EDIT II: I was curious what the going rate was for one of these. Here is one on Gunbroker for a grand.Last edited by marksmandowntown; 07-23-2014, 6:53 PM.GREATER SACRAMENTO AREA REALTOR

This one came down from Canada which is nice since it is an antique and therefore a non gun. I have not shot it yet as .577 Snider is hard to come by these days, but once I have some ammo, I fully intend to.Soli Deo Gloria.Comment

Where were the Nepalese ones made?Soli Deo Gloria.Comment

Wow, I just looked up the brass on Track of the Wolf and it is $4.09 for each brass case!
If brass is that much, loaded ammo must be pretty crazy. Reloading will be your friend for this cartridge.

In Nepal somewhere, likely by Cottage Industry Gunsmiths. Some of the guns that came out of the Nepal Cash are all original British, some have a mixture of British-made parts and Nepalese parts. Most are of indigenous production, but they are made to pretty decent standards. Ours is very solid, decently accurate and fun to shoot.
We shoot ours (both due to keep costs down and due to the non-standard Nepalese Chambers that can often wreck expensive brass) with 24 Gauge plastic shotshell hulls loaded with 60-65grs of 2F Goex Black Powder and a .577 Minie Ball on a 24 Gauge felt wad. Works Great! You cut the shells back to around 2 inches and then test fit them in the chamber until they're just short enough to fit. That gives you your cut length for subsequent shells. Then you just measure out and pour in your powder, put the wad on top and thumb in the bullet, pressing it down tightly and you're good to go.
Here's the thread where I learned about the process:

Here are the Shell Hulls:

These should work just fine in a British made gun.Comment

I like your idea about using plastic shot shells instead of the expensive brass. Just out of curiosity, how many times can you reload them before they come apart? We shoot ours (both due to keep costs down and due to the non-standard Nepalese Chambers that can often wreck expensive brass) with 24 Gauge plastic shotshell hulls loaded with 60-65grs of 2F Goex Black Powder and a .577 Minie Ball on a 24 Gauge felt wad.
