    Where is the pitting? Can you post a picture? How is the overall condition?
    Thanks

      Here are some photos. I think I got pretty lucky as most, if not all of the pitting will be covered up.

(Just like complete rifles/shotguns purchases) The lady that called advised me to write/type "receiver only" in the "Barrel Length" box on the BOF 961. She stated that when they get the form, they will annotate in the system that it is just a receiver, not a complete rifle. She relayed a story of a person putting ".01" in the barrel length box while trying to register a bare receiver and it triggered red flags for them. They had to call the person to clarify it was a bare receiver and not something else.

        I asked her about the "Caliber" box and she said I could put 30-06 (or .308 if I knew which route I was was going to barrel the receiver as). I asked if I could write "receiver only" again in that box. She said that was fine also. Other then those annotations, you would submit the BOF 961 as normal to comply with the registration requirement. (knock on wood/fingers crossed )
        What # at DOJ are u calling ? All I get is voice mail and no return calls.

        Also ATF told me that as long as what you receive is unaltered it is a C&R gun. The question that they posed to me was :
        "Is EVERYTHING that you are receiving 100% original ? IE: if it is missing the barrel bands, butt plate and rear sight , it is still a C&R as all else is original.

        AND it makes sense. {there aren't any 75% C&R's}

        Thus, a Mosin with a modern stock would go to an 01 FFL.

          I was always under the impression that to be considered C&R it had to be complete. For example, a barreled action would not be considered C&R. I could be wrong, but that was the impression I got when I first researched getting my 03.

            There are a lot of people that make that claim, and there are a lot of distributors that sell incomplete rifles, even barreled actions (that are otherwise unmodified) as C&R. In recent memory, RGuns, JG Sales, SOG, and Century, have all sold barreled actions as C&R.

              For those of you who are interested, I received my confirmation letter today from the DOJ stating it was registered. The letter was received about 5 weeks from mailing my paperwork/check.
