In the fine print, the best you can get has this disclaimer for a service grade:
"the barrel crown may be nicked, but muzzle will gauge less than "3" and the throat erosion will gauge less than "5"."
Not exactly what you want for a precision sniper rifle. All the good stuff is gone, my 1996 DCM lottery gun has a 0 ME and a 0 TE and shoots under a minute, gone are the days when you could get that for $800. To get that out of anything the CMP sells these days you have to go with a shot out Greek return. Replace the barrel with a NOS 555 or a repro and you can shoot well, but there goes the value.
I also can't understand the fascination with the M1C. There is really no difference between the D and C on any real level, they both shoot the same and accomplish the exact same thing. The way people reference it makes it sound like some kind of superior design. They both have terrible scopes and are not real sniper's rifles, unless you think a sniper rifle has a max range of 400 yards. Any of the sniper offerings from the Soviets, Germans, Japanese, etc. during that era where superior.Originally posted by doggieSomeone must put an end to this endless bickering by posting the unadulterated indisputable facts and truth."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T. OP,
Nice looking M1D! It looks very much like the one my dad received in early May. His is a late 6 digit and also has a nice post war SA stock. Are your bolt and trigger groups HRA?
I have been trying to put together the rest of the accouterments for him and have managed to pick up the cheek pad, an NOS T37, and think I have a scope mount on the way, but I am still short the scope. Prices that I have found (mostly on the CMP forums)are as follows-
Cheek Pads- The ones made in the mid 70s go for about $75 while the ones from the early '50s go for $225-$250.
Flash Hiders- The Hart Flash hiders (the conical versions) are around $225-$250, while the T37s go for $125-$150.
Scope mounts- They are going for $250.
M84 Scopes- There is a wide price variation on these and they seem to range from $900-$2200. One cheaper option is to look for an original is a Danish marked M84. It will have a DKF stamped on it and the last one I saw for sale went for $500.
While everything I have read says the M84 repos are trash, it sounds like the recent repo M82s being sold by The CMP are much better quality. That might be an option in the short term if an original M84 is not available. Also, as someone mentioned above the Lyman Alaskan is also a possibility and they seem to be going for just a little north of $200.
If you have not joined the CMP forums, it would be a good things as that is where I have been picking up my parts and there are very knowledgeable folks there.
Good luck with the search, I know I have been enjoying it.Comment
